Nancy SilverOriginally from New York City and vicinity, I wandered into the midwest, working in the medical field. Despite growing up a "confirmed Yankee", I fell in love with Asheville and especially the River Arts District on my first visit and moved here October, 2010. After college in the mountains of northern Vermont, I'd always had a mountain community on my list for the future.
Ten years ago I began studying different art media. I began studying sculpture with Margot Gotoff in her studio in Cincinnati, OH. I then took ceramics, drawing and painting at Northern Kentucky University. I fell in love with the fluidity of oil in my first class, and I've been hooked ever since. No matter what style I tried, I have always returned to a realistic, classic style of painting. My subjects range from architectural interiors and exteriors, to still life, and now landscapes. I am drawn to subjects that contain an element of history, the presence of people who are gone, often with signs of deterioration and abandonment. |
